Amid the current economic downturn, incidents of fraud are remaining constant. Fraud statistics can be difficult to establish, however most estimates show several billions of pounds are lost to fraud each year in the UK alone. Predominately, due to a lack of resources, most police and other criminal investigation services in the UK can only investigate a small percentage of these cases which, as technology increases so does the complexity of the fraud.
Cases concerning financial loss and other criminal activity take priority, with time and budget constraints ever present. Organised and fraudulent activity is of constant concern to any business and in the past year alone, these attacks have become more frequent and more diverse, with many SME's proving to be the biggest casualties.
Many private sector businesses are turning to established risk management consultancies to investigate internal and external fraud and mitigate any loss going forward.
